Fabricana is proud to carry a wide selection of high quality cotton batik fabrics from Robert Kaufman, Cantik Batik and Hoffman.

Artisan Batiks by Lunn Studios for Robert Kaufman
As expressed on the Robert Kaufman website:  “These one-of-a-kind Artisan Batiks are produced on the island of Java in Indonesia by skilled dye masters.”

Cantik Batiks
Inspired by nature, Cantik Batiks are designed in Canada.  The vast range of colours and motifs reflect the Canadian landscape and are printed on high quality cotton.

Hoffman Batiks
Hoffman is a company that has been around since 1924.  They are well known for creating high quality batik fabrics and are innovators when it comes to prints and colour combinations.

Fabricana quilt departments carry a selection of fabrics which are much wider than the standard 45” – 60” (115cm – 150cm) widths.  These extra-wide fabrics range from 90” – 118” (225cm – 300cm).  They are primarily used for backing quilts but can also serve other useful purposes such as duvet covers or seamless quilt borders.

Premium Muslin (118”)
In general the term “muslin” refers to plain woven cotton.  Specifically, Fabricana’s Premium Muslin is high quality woven cotton which is unbleached.  It is commonly used for quilt backings but is also suitable for Whole Cloth Quilts.

Panels are pre-printed designs meant for specific projects.  Some of the most common panels include baby quilts, holiday advent calendars, aprons, growth charts and soft books.  Fabricana’s selection of panels varies from season to season.

Precuts are very popular in the quilting community.  The term “precuts” refers to fabrics which are cut to specific sizes for the purposes of convenience, efficiency or to purchase the full range of a quilting collection.  Some common precuts include Fat Quarters, Fat Eighths, and Candies (fat sixteenths).  Precuts also sometimes come bundled such as Jelly Rolls (a collection of 2.5” x 44” strips), Fat Quarter or Fat Eighth Bundles, and Layer Cakes (a stack of 10” squares).  Fabricana always has a variety of individual Fat Quarters and Fat Eighths on hand, with other precuts and precut bundles available from time to time.

Fabricana’s quilt departments are mostly filled with prints.  These high quality printed cottons cover a wide range of themes including Traditional, Japanese, Baby and Juvenile, Holidays, Novelties, Wilderness and much more  Fabricana carries popular brands such as Moda, Andover, Hoffman, Robert Kaufman, Michael Miller, Riley Blake and Westminster Fibres, just to name a few!

Quilt Flannel

Quilt flannel is distinguished by its heavier weight, and high quality brushing and printing compared to flannelette which is woven from fluffy yarns.  Flannel is often used on quilt tops and backings (or just the backing) to add an extra dimension of softness and warmth.

Kona Solid Flannel
Kona solid flannel is a high quality fabric produced for Robert Kaufman fabrics.  Fabricana carries a range of basics as well as a selection of brights and pastels.

Flannel Prints
While solids are a great basic, our selection of flannel prints really sing.  Fabricana carries a selection of flannel prints from brands such as Northcott, Riley Blake, Moda, Windham and Maywood studio with a focus on nursery prints, masculine and wilderness prints.

Shadowplay Flannel
These mottled solids by Maywood Studio are very versatile and easy to blend in to your quilt project.  The texture and pattern of Shadowplay evoke a very rich and velvety look.

While Christmas prints create a fairly large subsection of the overall quilting department, Fabricana makes efforts to try to represent other seasonal fabrics such as Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Canada Day, Hallowe’en and Hanukkah.  Availability for each of these holidays will vary.
